In a world of darkness, a single spark of hope can still exist...
My story takes place in a land called Elden, a land filled with wonders and magic... but now is only filled with darkness and death. The hero, a man named Atreyu, his mind and body broken, fights to reclaim his humanity, his memory, and ultimately his world from the forces of darkness and evil.
Humans: Appeared in Elden during the age of light, along the southern coast. It is unknown where they came from, for there is no first-hand record of the event.
The Grey: Tall, gray-skinned creatures who first inhabited Elden. They were masters of the art of magic, and shaped the world as they pleased, creating beautiful cites and structures beyond comprehension. The Grey even created the Lycan to be used as a workforce as well as servants. They became extinct some time during the Lost Age, the cause is still unknown.
Lycan: Large primitive creatures who seem to have both human and animal qualities. They are bipedal, although most can run on all four if the wish. Their torso and upper limbs are massive, capable of lifting weights that no human could achieve. Their heads are a likeness of the animal they represent, although there are also some human qualities as well. Most lycans also have tails. Female lycan are less muscular and shorter than males, but compensate by being faster and more agile. Lycans can come in the following animal species: Wolf, Fox, Bear, Tiger, and Boar.
Dragonkind: Legendary creatures that have existed in Elden since the beginning. Only a few Elder Dragons still exist in the world, their species hunted to near extinction by The Grey several centuries ago. Wyverns, a descendant of dragons however, are fairly common in Elden, mostly being pests in remote places in the world.
Demons: Creatures made of stone and fire, their evil souls contained in gems hidden within their rocky exteriors. They have existed unnoticed in Elden since the Lost Age. During the age of darkness, they have come to rule over Elden, spreading chaos, destruction, and death as they please. They come in all shapes and sizes, and some are more intelligent or active than others.
Mark of the Damned: a black spot that forms on the hand of the affected, dooming him to spend eternity walking the world as an undead spawn. Originally humans were only born with the mark, and the rate of which it appeared was rather low, but as of the age of shadow, any human can receive the mark, whether they were born with it or not. Only humans can be marked,no other race seems to be affected, although no one knows really why. When one dies, he reappears in the closest place marked by time, a various amount of time since their death.
The Veil: the world of Elden is surrounded by a fog-like mist; anyone who attempts to cross it only seems to exit it from the same place they entered, if they exit at all.
Humanity: Those who are marked will eventually loose their bodies, their minds, and finally, their souls, resulting in a wandering bloodthirsty husk. Although the strong are capable of keeping their wits about them, only the soul of a demon can be used to restore one to human form, if only till they inevitably die again.
Places (so far)
Marshmoor: A sleazy little town located in a swamp to the northeast of Elden. Many unsavory individuals live here; mostly thieves and bandits of varying races. Marshmoor is almost completely ungoverned, and almost anything can and is bought and sold there.
Morgate: A small city located in the west near the mountain range. It was once a tourist destination, the main attraction being the colossal Mor Gate, of which the city is named after. It was created by The Grey and No one knows what lies beyond the gate, for it seemingly cannot be opened by any means even magic.
The Heart Of Elden: A lone volcano located in the exact center of Elden. During the age of light, it seemed almost dormant, but has gradually became more active until it erupted, beginning the age of shadow. Demons are born from the fire it spews, and it is likely the most dangerous place in all of Elden.
characters (so far)
Race: Human (cursed undead)
Born with The Mark of the Damned on the back of his right hand, his parents had to protect him by concealing it with a magic potion -and later in life a magic ring- in order to keep him from being banished to the wastes. He always felt as if he was meant to do big things in the world, and at the age of 22 he became a paladin of the White Circle. He became a very close friend to king Kronos, and was betrothed to his childhood friend Rose Merryweather. However the day of the wedding, he never showed up. He had apparently been attacked on his way to the wedding by bandits. Although most of his belongings were recovered, his body was never found… 37 years later he wakes up in the ruins of some tower unable to recall how he got there or who he even is…
Zen the Blind
Although he’s been blind most of his life, he can still “see”, using some supernatural ability to see the near future. These abilities have helped him become one of the greatest fighters in all of Elden.
Willow Merryweather AKA the Huntress
Race: human-lycan hybrid
Her mother being human and her father being a wolf lycan, her appearance is more human than wolf. She is considered unwelcome in both human and lycan societies, and makes a living as a Huntress of both animals and of men. Only the highest paying employers can afford her skills. However as humanity continues the dwindle, finding work has become harder and harder for her.
She grew up alongside Atreyu. They had been friend throughout her childhood, and she was an excellent hunter with a bow, and sold animal meat and pelts to the local traders. When she got older, Atreyu proposed to her and she said yes. When he was attacked by bandits and didn't show up for the wedding, she was devastated. She became even more devastated when she had found that she was pregnant with Atreyus child. Months later she gave birth to Lily, her firstborn child. Two years later she had settled down in a small town in the north near Lycan territory, where she was happy for a time, but it was not to last. The town was attacked by Lycan bandits and she was dragged off and brutally raped by her captives and made a slave.Rose was yet again horrified that not only had she become a slave, had her life and her child taken from her, but she had become pregnant yet again with one of her captors child. She was bought by a Female lycan who took pity and treated her like family; Willow was born a few months later.
